Singapore had taken the next higher step in Motor Sports, especially after the recent MPT Super Time Attack 2007 that was held at Sepang International Circuit on 16th April 2007.

Held at various circuits world-wide, Time Attack rose in popularity as the stakes began to rise and the tuners had to keep on developing new and improved machines with which to conquer their competition on track with. Since the early days things have moved on and there are now different levels of vehicles entering the competitions, from road cars to full-on specifically engineered.
The Time Attack, also known as Time Trial, is commonly practiced in Asia for individual time trial events for motor vehicles that involve vehicles running around the circuit in lieu of a qualifying lap.

The MPT Super Time Attack, however, does not require any qualifying laps. Each competitor will be given 4-laps in the 5.543km circuit of which a warm-up in the 1st, 2nd lap attempts for the actual best time tacking and a final cooling down lap.
Vehicles are classified by the different tyres being used such as ‘Road-Used Tyres’, ‘Semi-Slick Tyres’ and ‘Slick Tyres’. They are further being divided into either Turbo or N.A category. Apart from these, the organisers had also decided to include Kit Car and Auto Car into the classifications.

The cars are split into groups with 6 cars in each group for the run in the Time Attack with a total of 12 groups. These groupings are to prevent traffic congestion in the track and are not in any forms of orders in terms of classes and categories.

It all started as early as 8am in the morning when all 72 competing drivers gathered for the registration and the final briefing before commencing into the practice session on track.
The practice session saw some of the drivers performing to their best. Some of the drivers to take note of were Competition Number ‘69’ Denis Lian clocking his best lap at 2:14.152 with his Lotus Exige. Following closely behind was Desmond Soh in competition number ‘68’ clocking a best lap timing of 2:18.464 with his Mitsubishi EVO9.

Mitsubishi EVO9 drivers, Moh Tze Yang, Kelvin Phon, Chai Meng Kheng and Derrick Ang were also among the hot favourites with timing below 2:32.497sec during the practice session.

In an unfortunate occurrence, the CT230-R Mitsubishi Evolution had met with a technical fault during its practice session resulting to retire from the Time Attack and forcing a cancellation to the HKS Challenge. However, the CT230-R did manage to clock an unofficial timing of 2:09sec during the practice session. This was the fastest timing recorded for the day. – Timing was recorded manually by 6 stop-watches. Official Transponder was not ready at time of practice for the CT230-R
The first group started off right after lunch which saw the best timing from Eddiew Liew in his Honda DC5, running in the N.A Slick Tyres category with a time of 2:25.325. Also in Group 1 in the N.A Semi-Slick Tyres saw Lim Chee Siong clocking a time of 2:44.927.

In 2nd Group saw Denis Lian out-performed himself clocking a best time of 2:12.875sec, difference of -1.277sec during his practice session. His closest competitor, Desmond Soh, was however being forced back to the pit due to a technical fault and was reported Retire from the Time Attack.
The Kit Car and Auto Car in group 10 witnessed Yeung Wei Cher in his Mitsubishi Lancer GTA clinching the pole with 3:11.258sec in the Auto Car Category and Frederick Giang with his Suzuki Swift attaining the pole with 3:12.515sec in the Kit Car Category.

Despite the evening drizzle, amateur driver Tengku Djan Ley in group 12 was not a bit disturbed when he managed to clock his timing of 2:17.011sec in the Lotus Exige under the Turbo Click Tyre Category. In +19.069sec before him saw Solofoson Michel in his Subaru WRX with 2:36.080sec.

In between the event, Mr. Nobuteru Taniguchi from HKS and Ms May Khoo from YHI (Yokohama) were seen going around judging for the Best Dressup Race Car (B.D.R.C) Award. It was definitely a challenging task for these two judges to accord the scoring points for all 66 cars.

The entire event was summed up with a prize presentation ceremony during dinner. The event comes to a complete end at 7pm.
