                                                                                      DILANTHA BEATS WIRA DANI
                                                                                        TO LEAD MALAYSIAN SUPER SERIES

Sunday, 27 July 2007 - Defending champion Dilantha Malagamuwa finally beat Wira Dani Daim today at Sepang Circuit to take lead in the Malaysian Super Series; to open a three-point advantage in Supercar Championship with two more rounds to go.

After winning the opening race, Wira Dani’s Radical SR3 machine was slow off the grid in Race 2 to allow his Sri Lankan rival to overtake and lead the Supercar race, which was run together with the 2000cc machines in the Supersaloon Championship.

Wira Dani’s race got worse in Lap 3 race when he encountered gear box problems; forcing him to complete the race with the fifth gear to complete the remaining 12 laps of the 15-lap race. Dilantha cruised to take Race 2 and penned himself as winner for Round 3.

“Obviously, it is frustrating; but it actually could be even worse. The title race is still wide open and look forward for Round 4,” said Wira Dani, who now has 102 points against Dilantha’s 105 points.

Until Round 3 today, both Dilantha and Wira Dani had been locked on points; with both drivers taking first and second places in the two races of each of the two rounds.

With two more rounds to go, Wong Yew Choong opened a 48-point advantage over his closest rivals in the Supersixteen Championship; putting him right on track to wrap up the championship battle in Round 4 as he had targeted.

With many of his keenest rivals down with mechanical problems and accidents in the battle of 1600cc machines today, Yew Choong had a smooth run to the checkered flag in both Race 1 and Race 2 to collect another 40 points to take his total haul to 120 points.

Luck, however, was not his Yew Choong’s side after his quest for a double win in the Supersaloon Championship when his car broke down in Lap 10 of Race 2 as he was firmly on his way to victory; allowing closest rival Eddie Lew to record his first win of the season in the battle of the 2000cc machines.

In the sub-1000cc Supercompact Championship, two-time champion K. Perajun revived his  championship hopes for a third title by winning Round 3 to move to third overall in the championship standings and just eight points behind championship leader Chew Koon Ming, who has 83 points.

Pointless in Round 2 following mechanical failure to his turbo-powered Perodua Kancil, Perajun took 35 points today through a second place in the opening race and winning Race 2.

The fourth round would be held on September 9 and 10 while Round 5 and the final round for all the car competitions would be incorporated as support races in the A1GP Malaysia, scheduled from November 23 to 25.
