Sepang International Circuit (SIC) and Japan GT Association (GTA) joint promoters of Super GT International Series Malaysia announced in a press conference on Sunday, 17 June 2007 that they have lined up special programmes for this year’s race. The press conference was held in conjunction with the end its peninsular promotional road show which began since May 23.
SIC and GTA have organized a special ceremony on the 2007 Race Day, where 25 children from Japan and 25 from Malaysia, would join together and exchange national flags before the start of the race, to mark the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Japan-Malaysia Friendship Year.
“This exchange of flags is a symbolic ceremony to reflect the friendship and understanding between Malaysia and Japan that has grown over the years especially through the Super GT race” says Datuk Azmi Murad, SIC General Manager.
Keep in line with special ceremony involving kids. SIC for the first time ever, would be organizing a special “Kids Pitlane Walkabout” where kids below 12 years old would be given an opportunity to visit the pits to see and touch the race cars as well as meet the drivers and GT Queens for free. This very rare event is part of efforts to instill interest among the grassroots for motorsports.
Besides these, there will also be other array of special programmes to continuing the 50th anniversary celebrations at this weekend’s race. There would be Kids GT Driver and GT Queen Look-alike contests, colouring contests games and quizzes, plus remote control car competitions and demonstrations.
For the young at heart motoring fans there would be Drift Attack demonstrations and GT Car Look Alike competitions as side events and at this year’s race. They can also look forward to an attendance of approximately 100 Japanese GT Queens representing the teams and sponsors, 39 competitors and their supped up cars racing in GT500 and GT300 classes; and Asian Formula Renault, Formula V6 Asia, Formula BMW Asia and Asia GT Challenge cars providing support races.
The 2007 Super GT International Series Malaysia at Sepang International Circuit looks set to be a event packed weekend for kids and adults.
