Sepang Track Opens Tomorrow After 11-Day Closure
After being closed for the 11 consecutive days for track repairs, Sepang Circuit will be opened beginning tomorrow for teams participating in the 2007 Petronas Primax 3 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race to conduct their practices.
“We will open for three sessions beginning tomorrow including for night practices until 10pm. On behalf of Sepang International Circuit, I would like to apologise to all the participating teams and drivers for all the inconvenience.
“We fully understand your needs to hold practices and preparation of the cars; but the closure was necessary in the interest of safety for repair works on the track,” says Kumarasamy Chellapan, who is SIC Events Manager.
Closed between April and May for a complete track resurfacing, the 5.543-km track was closed again since August 6 for repairs in certain turns of the track as they were found to be uneven and bumpy.
“There are still some areas that we would need to touch for the MotoGP; but for the upcoming MME race, I would say that the track is okay,” said Kumarasamy, adding that the remaining repair works would be done at the end of September.
The Petronas Primax 3 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race officially starts next Thursday (August 23) with the official free practice before qualifying on the following day. Race Day would be on Saturday (August 25) with the 12-hour endurance race to be flagged off at 11am.
Slotted as the penultimate round of the world championship, the Polini Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix would be held from October 19 to 21.
